Lydia and her friends, Unka Munka and Beaver, have been delighting audiences for nearly 20 years. She performs her children's programs across the US (primarily in the Northeast) and in Europe. Lydia has several CDs and tapes for children and families which are available on line, at concerts and at select stores. Lydia has appeared with Pete Seeger and The Sloop Singers on Broad Old River. Her voice can be heard as storyteller, narrator, and vocalist, on several filmstrips, records and children's videos produced through American School Publications, a MacMillan McGraw Hill Company: Party Rhymes; Ernst the Crocodile; Yonder; and Dinosaurs to the Rescue!
Lydia's assembly programs are participatory concerts where children may be invited on stage to be "Kid Puppeteer" and percussionists. Her use of sign language and repertoire of songs give a taste of what residencies are available for schools, libraries, museums. Lydia performs solo, as a duo, or with her band, The Eco Trio.
Lydia's
library program - Literary Livingston. Lydia's in-depth knowledge and love of
children's literature enhances her ability to make stories come alive. Her wealth
of songs from previous programs can easily be adapted to create a new library
program to fit your needs. Other programs Lydia has used with success include:
Celebrate! Read!: Lydia performs thematic songs and creates literature-based
new songs with her audience.
Come As Your Favorite Character: Children are invited to dress up as
their favorite literary character and are interviewed on microphone by Lydia.
Songs and Stories by Lydia: Lydia's potpourri of songs, stories, sign
language, and wacky, wild animal hand puppets spark the imagination and draw
family audiences into singing along.
Heritage Storysongs: Adults swap a song or tale from their own heritage,
and by sharing their memories achieve a sense of community. Lydia performs popular
standards.
Improvisational Song-Story Swap: Groups of children and adults write
songs together with guidance from Lydia.
Some of Lydia's original songs based on books include: Arthur's New Puppy, Pasta Mania, Harriet the Spy, Potter's Plight, Are You My Mother, We're All Connected ("The Great Kapok Tree"), Animals in Winter (based on "The Mitten"), Junie B. Jones, Lon Po Po, and My Best Friend.
School and library programs can be adapted as well as Lydia's family concert program. With her many environmental songs both for children and adults she is a "natural" at nature centers!
All of the programs include 100% audience participation. For younger children programs also include her wacky "wild animal" hand puppets Beaver, Raccoon, and others. American Sign Language is incorporated into many of the programs. Lydia holds a Masters Degree in Special Education. Special Needs audiences are welcome.
