Songwriting Residency - using songwriting combined with specific topics, students learn songwriting and gain in depth knowledge of the topic.
In general songwriting residencies:
· Address learning standards
· Are fun and creative
· Are a group experience
· Promote love of music and makes it accessible
· Allow children with different learning styles to contribute and excel.Living History Residency - by immersing students in real life stories, historical facts and the music of the time, students get a richer picture of the era. Lydia covers American History from Colonial through the Civil Rights Movement, including Revolutionary War, Turn-of-the-Century, World War I and II.
Puppet Workshops - in making sock or bag puppets and then giving personalities to their puppets, children explore feelings, learn empathy and have fun acting. Shyer children are given a voice to better allow them to express themselves.
American Sign Language - Students learn ASL alphabet and are introduced to signs for greetings, simple commands, questions and a few short phrases. Lydia sings and signs and teaches the students a simple song in sign. They learn finger spelling (great for tactile learners!). Enhances communication and reading skills.
